Giving Greek is a non-profit organization that collects leftover meals from on-campus fraternities and sororities and delivers them to nearby shelters or food banks.
During the school semester, we aim to bring donations on one day each week. Some weeks, the amount of leftover food varies, so the exact amount of meals donated each week can change.
Each week, we must load the leftover food into disposable to-go plates and metal serving trays before delivery. Giving Greek will provide these plates and trays to each fraternity or sorority that we are collecting meals from. These plates and trays are not free, so we use donations to purchase them when we run out. Donations also assist us with paying for insurance and our website.
Currently, Giving Greek mainly focuses on providing food donations each week during the school semester. However, to kick off the fall semester of 2023, a group of volunteers participated in a cookout where 8 full trays of chicken alfredo pasta were cooked and donated to St. Vincent de Paul, feeding hundreds of people. We plan to do more of these cookouts in the future, and are also considering hosting food drives and kitchen and pantry cleanouts. Everything made and obtained through these events will be donated to those in need.
There are many ways to get involved with Giving Greek, such as volunteering, making a donation, or attending one of our events. The volunteer form can be found at the bottom of the Volunteer tab on our website.
